UUP ROW IN McGUINNESS'S OFFICE

A UUP delegation has claimed Martin McGuinness told them to "get out" of his office after an argument over policing and justice powers.

Ulster Unionist MLA Fred Cobain, who attended the meeting with the deputy first minister, said Mr McGuinness had "aggressively lectured" the delegation.

Mr Cobain said the whole exchange only lasted about three minutes.

Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly said Mr McGuinness did not ask the UUP delegation to leave.

Mr Kelly, who was not at the meeting, said the UUP were "talking nonsense".

"Early in the meeting Fred Cobain stated that he wasn't at the meeting with Martin McGuinness to listen to anything the deputy first minister wanted to say," the MLA said.

"Martin correctly pointed out that if that was the case there was little point in Mr Cobain continuing to be there. At that point Mr Cobain left the meeting followed in dribs and drabs by his party colleagues."

Mr Cobain said Mr McGuinness had "ridiculously accused" the UUP of being an anti-agreement party.

"Our delegation robustly reminded the deputy first minister that we were the party which brought power-sharing government to Stormont," he added.

UUP leader Sir Reg Empey, Michael McGimpsey, and Danny Kennedy also attended the meeting.

The Ulster Unionist Party's executive will meet later today to take a final decision on tomorrow's assembly vote on devolving policing and justice powers.

On Friday, the party said it was not in a position to back the move.
